Courses that open horizons
onto different worlds
The Way I Teach
The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows.
Sydney J. Harris
Between an academic approach and a business training, my courses often marry theory and practice, with a strong emphasis on project work. Games, video, role plays, my students are never idle.
All of my courses have contained hybrid aspects for many years as I feel the digital world and off-line world are inseparable. As such, all of my courses can also be taught fully online. Drawing on my research in online group identity and my extensive experience teaching hundreds of students online, my approach to online classes is student-centered, promoting continual student engagement.
My students are co-creators. I enjoy the blogging format as a means for students to create, organize and turn in their project work, but I also use other social media platforms for digital teamwork, and regularly call upon students to film their work too.
I like to think of my classes as borderless, encouraging students to call upon experts and stakeholders in the community to enrich them with their knowledge. I also organize exchanges between different schools and organizations for this same purpose. Learning happens as much outside and around the class as inside and during class.
